Role Reasoning: Despite that Tora is a big, scary mobster, there’s actually a lot of good in him. He is a very big product of the environment that he grew up in, and has definitely earned all the scary shit that hangs around him, but he’s a good person who takes excellent care of his people. He has genuine friendships with his crews and does his damnedest to make sure that those he cares for are protected. While he’s never going to be anyone’s hero, he’s also not going out and purposefully killing and scaring people. Anymore.
★ Personality ★
What was the most traumatic experience your character endured? How did this change them? So, for Tora, he grew up pretty much as an orphan because of his father’s death when he was young and his mother’s mental illness. Because he didn’t really have parents, he was sort of taken in by Vincent Balthuman, one of the most powerful clan heads in the city. But he was taken in to be an enforcer for Vincent and protector of Quinceton, Vincent’s son. If Tora did anything out of line, he was locked in a cage and then antagonized through the bars until he behaved and was tougher. This happened many times until he started acting like he was supposed to, until he was basically an angry, violent creature that was good for fighting and doing Vincent’s bidding. He still has nightmares of the times he was locked away.
What is the most important and defining relationship(s) in your character's life and why? Tora, despite what he wants others to think, has quite a few people who have influenced him over the years. 1) Vincent Balthuman raised him to be a violent enforcer, and while he is that, he’s also sort of outgrown Vincent. 2) Old lady Alice at the sushi restaurant and her son Joe the cop. They gave him a sort of family when he was a violent angry teen, a place to land when he needed people to look after him without crowding him. Joe even went so far as to set him straight a time or two about the fact that he doesn’t have to be in the mafia if he wants to do something else with his life, but it would take real work to do so. 3) Quinceton Balthuman is probably the closest thing he has to a friend. While he is an employee to the clan’s heir, he’s also his beta reader, protector, big bro and buddy. Quincey is the only person who allows Tora to be someone other than ‘The Tiger of Ares Street” and knows him as a person. 4) Poppylan Wilkes is the only woman to draw him in with just being herself. Her sass, her intelligence and her innocence calls to him in a way that no other person has been able to do in his whole life. She allows him to be silly, and she calls him on when he’s angry for no reason at her. She doesn’t let him walk all over her, despite the fact that he is a big, scary mobster and she’s nothing but a tiny normie. In fact, the in-canon joke is that she’s the hamster holding the tiger’s leash and that’s not too far off.
Which Taylor Swift era is your character going through right now and why? Tora’s definitely in TSwift’s Lover era. He’s finally found a girl that he likes and that he wants to keep safe. While things started off weird and very much business for him, he found that her sweet, kind and open personality was just the kind of thing to spark his interest. Before Poppy, he could take or leave women, and most of the time it was leaving them far behind, if he even noticed them at all. But he’s found himself explaining things to her that he normally wouldn’t. Hell, the man bought a house when she said that she might date him. He’s very smitten.
What is a time where your character failed drastically at something and how did it impact them, what did they do about it? So, oddly enough, this is something that Tora is actually experiencing right now in canon. He is dealing with a creepy guy named Gil who stole a notebook full of secrets about all of the mafia clans in Narin City. This notebook has been something that he’s been after for a while now. At the beginning, he was trying to get close to Poppy so that he could take it from her, but he failed to get to it before Gil did. After that, he needed to get the notebook and he’s roped in Quinceton (his boss’s son and only real friend) to help him have a reason to get close to the people at Goldfish Publishing outside of Poppy. Sadly, he was too late to keep Gil from murdering his own wife in an effort to use the notebook for his advantage and now Tora feels completely responsible for not acting sooner. He’s currently trying harder to keep Poppy, Jacob and Erdene safe. He’s actually purchased a house out in the boonies so that he can keep a closer watch on Poppy.
